SOURCES ONLY

When Marisol returns, she thanks me for watching her stuff and continues the conversation.

“What are you researching, Dominic?”

“I kinda like your topic.” I slide my phone back into my pocket, hiding the evidence.

“You should pick something that interests you, Dominic. Aren’t you into sports?"

“I wouldn’t know where to begin.” I mimic the look my dog makes when he wants my burger.

“You have to focus on something specific. Maybe combine it with another topic. Besides sports, what else do you like?”

“Food?” I say it like it’s a question.

“How about nutrition and muscle recovery?” she suggests in a bright voice. It’s not a bad idea.

I don’t want Marisol to know that I have her sources, so I open a search engine and type in the topic she suggested. Ms. Sabin expects us to prove that our sources are valid, so I scroll past all the ads and find a site by some sports medicine institute and start reading.

Why is this font so small? And what the heck is gylocen? Or is it glycogen? And microtears? Are those like tiny eye drops?

“What about the no-crying-in-sports rule?” I mutter to myself. This makes no sense. I’m about to give up when Ms. Sabin comes in with her class.

What should I do . . .

Maybe Deja is right. I could ask the teacher for help. But she doesn’t like me, so I probably shouldn’t bother.
